Description

Overall Impression:

Qatar Airways has been flying their Airbus A350-900 to Philadelphia for a while now. They still fly their 1-2-1 configured reverse herringbone business class product on this aircraft, but are slowly refitting their A350-900s with the new QSuite. These seats are now becoming dated, but still very comfortable for both lounging and sleeping during the 12.5 flight to Doha. The catering and onboard service during the flight were excellent and extensive. The only thing I didn't like was the rather spartan British Airways Lounge at PHL airport. It's such a small space, and the food and drink offering was very limited.

What I liked:

The airplane - We've flown on Qatar's A350-900 before and we still love it. Large windows with electronic blackout shades, spacious cabin with high ceiling, and the best humidity/cabin pressure of any next generation aircraft available is a sure win.

The onboard service - The onboard service was impeccable. It was like a beautifully choreographed dance. The crew was charming, attentive and very efficient in delivering the onboard service.

The food - The onboard catering was excellent. There were plenty of food and beverage offerings as well as an extensive wine list.

The IFE - This plane uses the Oryx One Entertainment system and it offers an array of new and classic movies, TV programs, music, and games. The Airbus A350 also has an impressive outside camera, but sadly the moving map app was out of service.

What I didn't like:

The Lounge- The British Airways Lounge at Philadelphia Airport was small and basic. There was bar, coffee station, and fridge for cold drinks. Food selection on the buffet spread was rather limited.

It was OK...I guess:

The seats - I really like Qatar's reverse herringbone seats, but I like their QSuite product even more. The seat is private, yet spacious and well laid out. Everything you need including a side storage is all within an arms reach. Even more important is that the seat reclines into a full flat bed. Not exactly ground breaking, but still a very comfortable product.
