The New Boracay 2019! What is it like, what’s changed? Can you do it on a budget?!In this video I take you around the beautiful, famous Philippines island of Boracay. We see its incredible beaches, world renown sunsets, and a dive into local culture and strategies on how to see this island on a budget! Boracay, Philippines was completely shut to tourism for 6 months because it grew too fast and the infrastructure couldn’t keep up. As a result there was sewage being dumped into the ocean, more garbage, and the roads couldn’t keep up. Boracay reopened in November and has made an effort to go green, including new electric transpiration on the island.
As you will see from this video, the clean up and construction are still fully under way. That is a good thing though, because the island really does need it, and it is providing jobs to the locals who were hit severely by the sudden cut off of their tourism income. After speaking to several locals while there, Im happy to report that tourism is on the rise again in Boracay and they can now rely on tourism to feed their families once more.
One thing to note however, or a word of cation, is that Boracay is known to be “the rich tourist’s island” and some people are looking to rip off tourists. In this video I’ve also added tips on how to recognize when you’re being ripped off and how to avoid it. I hope you enjoy the video, I’m off to Siargao this week for some surfing and can’t wait to make a new video for you there. If you have any questions about Boracay, the Philippines or my travels please leave them in the comments below! I make sure to answer all of them! :)
